Fighting for a Voice
After receiving a nationally recognised award from Ian Duncan
Smith MP, Operation Emotion has joined
The Centre of Social Justice Alliance.
The Alliance will brief Politicians and Local and National
Policymakers on what is really needed to tackle the core
problems causing poverty in the UK today - giving Operation Emotion
the chance to influence future policies.
The prestigious awards launched
by Chairman Iain Duncan Smith MP, recognise, reward and
celebrate grassroots organisations making an exceptional
contribution to tackling poverty.
Operation Emotion
was praised for their innovative approach to tackling poverty by
treating the root cause of mental health problems.
Centre Manager, Martine Cotter
(who was also awarded an Evening Herald Enterprising Women of
the Year Award in 2005) said,
"Research shows that childhood sexual
abuse can sometimes be the root cause of family breakdowns,
addictions, long-term unemployment, criminal behaviour and
homelessness in adult life.
Operation Emotion
tackles the core issues by providing
specialist therapy to survivors and their families."
Martine said, "We're really
pleased about winning the money, but having the chance to
influence future policies is far more important to us. Some
people still find Childhood Sexual Abuse a taboo subject and
many other organisations just don't have the resources to deal
with it".
